Privacy Policy — Beautiful Startpage

Beautiful Startpage is a new-tab extension that displays your own Chrome bookmarks. Your privacy is simple to describe: the extension does not collect, sell, or transmit any personal data to us or to any third party. Everything stays inside your own browser and Google account.

What Data Is Accessed

Bookmarks. The extension reads your Chrome bookmarks to display them on the new-tab page, and writes to them when you create, rename, delete, pin, or reorder an item. This happens entirely through Chrome's local bookmarks API. Your bookmarks are never sent to any server operated by us.

Preferences. Your chosen theme, language, view mode (grid/list), pinned Quick Access items, and folder icons are saved using Chrome's storage. We do not see or receive this data.

How Data Is Stored

Preferences are stored with chrome.storage.sync. This means Chrome keeps them in your Google account so they sync across your signed-in devices. This synchronization is performed by Google, governed by Google's own privacy policy; the data is never transmitted to the extension's developer. All bookmark data remains in Chrome's local bookmark store and your existing bookmark sync — the extension adds no separate copy or upload.

Third-Party Services

The extension loads website icons (favicons) from Google's public favicon service (https://www.google.com/s2/favicons). To show an icon, the domain of a bookmark is included in that image request. No other data is sent, and no analytics, tracking, or advertising services are used.

Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, or transfer any user data to third parties. The extension contains no analytics and no telemetry.

Data Retention and Deletion

You remain in full control. Removing a bookmark in the extension removes it from Chrome. The "Reset preferences" option in Advanced Settings clears all saved settings. Uninstalling the extension removes its stored preferences.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this URL with a new "Last updated" date.
